EPISODE 22:

"Being the Captain of Your Workplace"

There are 6 ways Dean discusses in this week's episode on how to be the Captain of your work place. These 6 ways are found in Sam Walker’s book, “ A Captain’s Class: A New Leader in Leadership”. They are as follows:

1.  It’s not generally the superstars who are leading the team.

2.  Talent will only take you so far (synergy is needed).

3. You cannot allow social loafing.

4. You have to have support players.

5. Captains don’t give big speeches, they give one on one communication.

6. You have to find a way to share your emotions with your team.

Dean suggests reading Sam Walker's book and exploring how these tips can help your leadership in your own workplace!

Dean also goes on to discuss his personal 9 tips that he gathered from reading Sam’s book.

9 things Dean has learned from the book on being the captain of your workplace:

1.  Your Characteristics Have to Align with Your People.

2.  Express Humility.

3.  Give Relentless Effort.

4.  Emotional Self Control.

5.  Willingness to Do What is Necessary.

6.  Let Others Know you Care About Them.

7.  Able to Have One on One Conversations with Employees.

8.  Be Content that you May Not Get the Credit for the Wins.

9.  You Have to Help your Team Mirror your Emotions (in a Positive Way).

Dean would love to hear from you!
